About · Volstrin
A small firm,
on purpose.
Volstrin is a boutique legal search practice in New York. We keep the caseload small so every search gets the attention legal hiring actually requires. Law is where we begin; the licensed professions follow.
§ 01 — Origin
Why we
started.
Legal hiring had been handed to generalist staffing desks that treat a litigator like a line item — résumé in, résumé out, hope it holds.
It doesn't hold. A trial lawyer who thrives in a twenty-person boutique can drown at a five-hundred-attorney firm. Practice area, partnership track, billing expectations, the politics of a group — these decide whether a hire lasts, and a résumé keyword match sees none of them.
We built Volstrin to weigh all of it before a name reaches your desk. We stay small deliberately. We don't chase volume, and we don't send the same five résumés to every firm in town. Law is where we begin — the method travels to wherever a license, a reputation, and a fit all have to be right at once.
§ 02 — Standard
How we work.
Precision over volume
A shortlist of three to five thoroughly-vetted candidates per search — matched on practice area, firm culture, seniority, and compensation. Never an inbox flooded with names nobody read.
Transparent fees
Contingency throughout — our fee is shared in full at intake, no surprises, invoiced on the candidate's start date, net 30. You pay nothing unless we place someone who stays.
A ninety-day guarantee
Every placement carries a 90-day replacement guarantee at no further cost. If the hire doesn't hold, we run the search again. We stand behind our work.
A 48-hour shortlist
Our target from intake. We source per search through targeted outreach and genuine inbound interest — never a stale résumé database sent to everyone at once.
Complete confidentiality
Nothing is shared without explicit consent. Your hiring plans, and a candidate's search, stay between us — from the first conversation to the offer.
§ 03 — Principles
What guides us.
Integrity first
We hold ourselves to the standards we expect of the lawyers we place. Full transparency with clients and candidates — no shortcuts, no exceptions.
Precision over volume
Few searches, worked properly. We present people who genuinely fit the brief — quality is not the thing we trade away to move faster.
Absolute discretion
Legal careers are built on reputation. Every search — for a firm or a candidate — is handled in complete confidence.
Relationships, not transactions
We treat each engagement as the start of a long relationship. Reputation in legal search is earned one careful placement at a time.
Market-informed
We track published compensation surveys, lateral-movement reporting, and practice-group news. Our advice is anchored to current data, not guesswork.
Accountability
We stand behind every placement. If a hire isn't right, we make it right — a replacement search at no further cost.
§ 04 — Conduct
Standards & compliance.
NALSC-aligned practice
We align our work with the published NALSC Code of Ethics — the industry framework for candidate representation, fee transparency, and professional conduct in legal search. Volstrin is not currently a NALSC member; membership is on our roadmap.
ASA-aligned practice
We align with the American Staffing Association's published ethical principles — legal compliance, fair treatment of every candidate, and transparent business practice. Volstrin is not currently an ASA member; membership is on our roadmap.
Equal opportunity
We comply with federal and state equal-employment-opportunity law. Every search we run is free from discrimination on the basis of race, gender, age, religion, or any protected class.
Confidentiality & data
Candidate information is never shared without explicit consent. We use encrypted communication and access controls to protect client and candidate data throughout the search.
§ 05 — The principal
Who runs Volstrin.
Maisa Ahmad
Founder
Maisa founded Volstrin and runs its searches herself. She knows legal recruiting from the inside — how to read a practice, a firm's culture, and a candidate's trajectory, and how to place people who actually stay. She built the firm to do that work properly: a few searches at a time, every candidate vetted before they reach you, and absolute discretion throughout. Engage Volstrin and Maisa is who you work with — start to finish.
Begin
Every search begins
with a conversation.
Whether you're a firm with a seat to fill or a lawyer weighing a move — it starts with one confidential conversation.
